Andy Bloch Biography
Andy Bloch was born in Orange, Connecticut on the 1st of June, 1969. Andy attended MIT and earned a couple of electrical engineering degrees. During his time at MIT he was also a member of the well known MIT blackjack team. Blackjack is a numbers game and the transition to poker was a relatively easy one for Andy.
Andy’s first major tournament action was at the 1997 WSOP main event. Bloch was asked to test a hole card cam during the tournament and the experiment resulted in a Card Player Magazine article. In 2001 Bloch was back at the tables and this time he was making money and taking names. Bloch made two WSOP final tables that year and began to get noticed in the poker world. In 2002 Bloch continued his success finishing third in two WPT events. Four years later, in 2006, Andy Bloch finished second in the inaugural $50,000 HORSE event at the WSOP which proved his poker versatility and also earned him over $1,000,000 in cash. Bloch has continued to have success in recent years with a WSOP PLO World Championship victory in ’08 and a runner up finish in NBC’s heads up championship the same year. Bloch has over $4,000,000 in career tournament winnings.
When asked whether Bloch feels he is more of a math guy or a law guy, Andy will go with math all day long. It’s this love of numbers that has helped Bloch become such a force in both the poker and blackjack worlds. While a member of the MIT blackjack team, Bloch recalls winning over $100,000 in one night of counting cards. Bloch has also used his knowledge of game theory to win the ’03 roshambo (aka rock, paper, scissors) championships in 2003 which proves his skills can bring him success in more games than just poker and blackjack.
Andy Bloch is also a very charitable person and uses his success and fame to give back to people who are in need. Any amount of money that Bloch wins playing poker online at Full Tilt Poker, Bloch will donate to charity. In the past Bloch has donated big portions of his tournament wins to charities, including $100K of his Pro-Am Poker Equalizer win to help in Darfur. Andy Bloch is a full member of Full Tilt and you can find him at the tables using his math knowledge to give him an edge against most challengers.
